Industry Overview

Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) and chemical desulfurization systems operate in one of the most corrosive and abrasive environments in process industry. The combination of acidic slurry (pH 3-6), high chloride content from coal-derived HCl, gypsum and limestone slurry abrasion, and temperature gradients creates a unique challenge for every wetted surface. UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

Natural Rubber & Butyl Rubber Compounds

For FGD slurry pump impellers, pipe bends, and tank linings, natural rubber and synthetic rubber compounds provide excellent abrasion resistance with good chemical resistance. Zhili formulates compounds specifically for FGD chemistry — high chloride content, acidic pH, and temperature cycling from ambient to 60C. Butyl rubber is preferred for absorber linings due to superior H2SO4 and HCl resistance.

Low-Chromium Cast Iron (LC-FGD)

For limestone grinding in FGD ball mills, standard high-chromium alloys suffer galvanic corrosion in acidic slurry. Zhili's LC-FGD alloy (2-3% Cr, optimized C content) provides the right balance of corrosion resistance (Cr2O3 passive layer) and abrasion resistance for wet limestone grinding.

Wet FGD Absorber Tower

Limestone-gypsum slurry absorbs SO2 at pH 5-6. Tank walls, spray headers, and mist eliminators face slurry droplet impact abrasion and chemical corrosion. UHMWPE or rubber linings are the standard solution.
